Celebrating Celebrities

The following writing prompt came from Mama Kat's Losin' It prompt generator. I posted the one meant for today two days early, so I'm using another of her prompts for today.

Write about an experience you have had with a celebrity.

Many years ago, before my babies were old enough to demand to watch cartoons instead, I was a big fan of the soap opera, General Hospital. Maybe you remember, Luke, Laura, Holly, and Robert Scorpio.

Robert Scorpio was my favorite. I loved his accent. With a few exceptions, I think that most accents sound better than my own. Irish/Scottish accents are my absolute favorites, with the Australian accents a very close second. Anyway, Robert was played by Tristan Rogers.

And he was going to be within 50 miles of my home!

You better believe I was going. No way could I miss this opportunity. Of course, if Elvis had still been alive and I had to choose between them, well, Elvis would have won out, hands down. haha

Off I went to Greenville, South Carolina, a town that I never have liked driving in. But, you do what you've got to do, right? It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance for me.

I can't even put into words how I felt to be able to see him in person!

What happened next, I never, ever would have imagined happening. The interviewer called on me and asked me a question, something along the lines of "what do you think about him?"

Me, shy me, the me who gets fat tongue and jelly legs and bathed in sweat and hurliness at the thought of talking in front of people, said - for all the world to hear (ok, probably just Upstate South Carolina) - "I think that he's the sexiest man on television."

And he smiled at me.

But he went further than that. He said "thank you".

Whoa! This guy spoke to me!

I figured I'd never wash those ears again!

  1. I loved Luke & Laura! But, Scottie Baldwin was my favorite! In high school, I named my car after him. I was *that* obsessed!

    Lucky you to meet Tristan!

  2. I always thought that Scottie was such a brat! Ha-ha I think that it is neat that you named your car after him.

Did you cry your eyes out after the platypus incident with Holly? I remember that to this day. I cried for days.

Which other shows did you watch? I watched All My Children and One Life to Live. I was so addicted just after high school that I scheduled my classes around those shows. :)

I don't want any of them now. Boy, how things change! The closest I get to a soap opera these days is singing Figaro in the shower!
