Five Minute Friday: My Life Five Years Ago

I just found the most delightful website: The Gypsy Mama

The prompt in the above post was to write about my life five years ago, in five minutes, without editing it. Ok, here goes...though somehow it ended up being more about six years ago than five. :)

Five years ago, I was living in Southeast Texas, wondering how we dodged yet another bullet. The year before, we had to evacuate due to Hurricane Rita. It was predicted to come right over our little town. We weathered the storm in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The allergies didn't follow us up there and neither did the mosquitoes. I could almost literally see them putting on brakes there at the border, like they knew they were not allowed up there. Oklahoma is absolutely beautiful! While we were up there, we crossed over into Coffeyville, Kansas. We had a blast! It reminded me of the Kansas described in The Wizard of Oz. We stopped at a gas station just as we crossed the border and the wind was whipping around something fierce. It was the first time experiencing wind like that when I couldn't say "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!" I loved it.

Oh, but I got off track!

Five years ago was the year after the hurricane that did NOT demolish our town as Katrina had done New Orleans and so many other cities. We were blessed with a roof still over our heads. Big changes came into my life that year. Things started falling apart on the home front. I say started, but in reality they were already broken before we made the move here. It just got much worse and escalated even further in 2006.

I had an anaphylaxis episode while I was home alone. I stopped breathing. No air coming in or going out. But, Heavenly Father gave me the peace not to panic. I prayed through it and started breathing again. However, I didn't make it back unscathed. There are cognitive issues that I still deal with to this day, mostly in areas of communication. I am fighting my way back.

Five years ago, I had 6 children living at home, and there was always something going on. That was the last year that I had so many under my wing. Now, there are three, and they are growing up way too fast.

  1. One gift from God's hand that I've seen magnified in palpable brilliance over the past couple of months is that I have some of the most precious friends in the world, and I count you among them, my sweet sister afar who is joined with me heart to heart. Knowing I have people like you in my life makes it less difficult to navigate the unknown waters of growing older, makes it not so shadowed and uncertain. I'm glad to have you in my life. I bless this life that is all His grace and bless Him for letting me share it with you.

  2. I feel the same way, Sis. I am thankful that He brought you into my life. You have been such an encouragement to me, always there praying for me, being my friend, loving me through everything, both good and bad. You know my heart even when I'm not so sure of it myself. You are such a blessing to me. I am grateful to have you as both my sister and my friend. It was one of the biggest blessings in my life, the day He allowed our paths to cross. Thank you, Sis, for being you and sharing your heart with me. {{{hugs}}}

  3. Hi Suzanne! I just checked my comments on my blog, yep I'm a little backwards at times. Thank you for notice my blog frog post. That is one subject that is a button pusher to me, so any chance I get to speak about it I do. I kind of think it was a "God thing" that she would make that statement, and ask for our opinions and then me read it. I feel like I would have been disobeying God's Will if I hadn't directed her to my post. Now whether she really wanted to know or whether she actually read the post, only God knows. I hope if she did, God will use it to touch and maybe even change her heart. I am so sorry for your losses. I had one miscarriage and never was able to get pregnant again. (The dumb doctor, while examining me said, "you might be having a miscarriage, but I wouldn't worry about it, the proceeded to go out of the room and tell my ex-husband it was a urinary tract infection, and that's what he treated me for! Two years later I was having a lot of pain while on vacation and went to the emergency room. They admitted me and did an emergency d&c on me. The doctor as me if I had ever been pregnant, so I told him what had happened two years before and he told me then that I had definitely been pregnant and miscarried at which time the doctor never bothered to do the d&c, so I was a total mess. For reason, I never got pregnant again.
    I cannot imagine having to deal with the losses that you have.

    God Bless,
    Your sister in Christ,

  4. Thank you. I am so sorry for the things that you have had to endure. I am going to send you an e-mail shortly. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting on my blog.

    Your sis in Christ,
