First Day

Yesterday was officially the first day of classes, but it was a holiday, so school offices were closed. Since I attend an online school, I was still able to access my classroom.

I have completed all of the assignments for Week 1 in the Mastering E-learning class and have those grades back already - 100% on all three assignments. That one was easy enough. The hard stuff is coming, though. I have to do the Math and Language Arts assessments to find out which classes to register for next. I already know that I need the lowest level math class, so to take the assessment is a big waste of time, in my opinion.

The Art Appreciation class is a whole 'nother ball game. I have turned in the first discussion question, but will have to make four response posts by Sunday night. I have to either respond to classmates or do web research and summarize what I find in four different posts. I will probably do the latter, but first I have to figure out what I'm supposed to be researching. There's so much to take in, to try to figure out which way to go in this class, that I really don't even know where to begin.

I love art, and good that I do considering that I am an artist, but reading about it and explaining about it...that isn't something that always goes well for me. I sat down to read the first chapter in the book and before I was off of the first page, I was yawning and my eyes were closing. Good grief! I don't have time for a two-hour nap per page that I have to read. I don't want to start down that road again.

This kind of concerns me on something other than a 'bored out of my gourd' level, too. This very same thing happened to me last year in the month before the tumors were found. I would pick up a book to read, and promptly fall asleep. I don't want to go there again.

OK, so for this art appreciation class, I have to read Chapters 1 and 2, as well as the book about MLA formatting, listen to four or five lectures, and make the four response posts and also a paper that is due by the end of Week 2.

This should be an interesting adventure for someone who can't remember what was read or heard even five minutes after it was read or heard. :)

  1. First, I am sure you will do fine! 2nd, if I can give a little advice, seeing as that I have been doing the online school thing for about a year, PACE yourself, and make a schedule of what and when something is due, as well as what class. Also if you can work ahead on something that is easier then do that too! If you have to schedule tests, that have to be taken at the school, do that now as those slots can book quickly too. I hope that helps. I don't start back until September. Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions, Kiana. I am definitely a believer in working ahead whenever possible. With the way my husband and I work, I have to get things done as soon as possible because we never know when another job call will come through (we're on call) and one call can keep us out all day long.

Good luck to you whenever you start back. I hope that you have a great school year. :) Thanks!
