Wednesday HodgePodge

Please be sure to visit Joyce at From This Side of the Pond to play along!

1. What makes you stand to your feet and cheer?

I am not generally a physically expressive person in most instances. However, inside, I was jumping all over the place, cheering my face off, during the College World Series this time. Our team, University of South Carolina, won for the second year in a row. They were the last to win at Rosenblatt Stadium (2010) and the first to win it at TD Ameritrade Park (2011). It was exciting beyond belief and I'm not even a sports fan. :)

2. What's your favorite patriotic song?

OK, this is probably not the expected response, but it is my honest answer: "Dixie" is my favorite patriotic song.

3. Do you believe that opposites attract? If you have a significant other are you opposites?

Yes, I believe it and live it every day of my life. My husband and I are total opposites in many ways. One of the ways that stands out the most to me is that he is a goofball, jokes about everything and I am a very serious-natured person. He doesn't get embarrassed and doesn't mind putting on a show, "hey, look at me" and all that. I would rather blend into the shadows, get embarrassed very easily, and just generally want to be invisible in public situations. He doesn't mind public speaking. Just the thought of it makes my tongue swell, and legs shake, and makes me sure I'm going to hurl buckets at whoever has the misfortune of being in close proximity of me. There are many other ways in which we are opposite, but it would take a whole series of posts to get them all in.

4. You're going to get a behind the scenes look someplace-where would you like that someplace to be?

There are so many ways to answer this because there are lots of places where I would love to be a fly on the wall, so to speak. But one thing that I have wished for years now that I could do is to go back in time to just before my immigrant ancestors left Ireland and Scotland for the United States. They were here in the US pre-Great Famine, having been here since at least the 1690s. I know there were other famines over the years, so maybe an earlier one caused them to leave their homeland. Maybe it was persecution, as there was much of that going on (and, to a degree, still is). I just would really love to know the story behind their leaving and I would love, love to hear them do the telling of the story. But, that will never happen, at least not this side of Heaven.

5. How far would you have to travel to ride a carousel (merry-go-round)?

For a carousel, I would probably have to go into Houston and that's not happening. I avoid that place as much as humanly possible. In order to spin on a merry-go-round, I only have to walk up the street just a little bit to the park. I love merry-go-rounds. It was on one back home in Anderson, South Carolina, where my then-friend/now-husband asked me to be his girl. My response, the words that will follow me until the end of time with many giggles attached, was "I reckon".

6. When was the last time you saw fireworks? What was the occasion? Do you enjoy fireworks?

I believe that the last time I went to see fireworks was 4th of July 2009. I love watching and trying to photograph fireworks. We didn't make it last year because I was very sick. I don't know yet if we'll make it this year to the display. Time will tell.

7. Of all the 'beauty products' you own, what item do you consider to be the most overpriced?

The only "beauty products" that I own personally (outside of those here for our Avon business) are a 99cent hair brush and a scrunchy. I don't think that either one of those were overpriced at all. I don't generally put money into makeup, beauty parlors, or anything like that. If I ever have extra money, it generally goes to buy a book or magazine, not things to attempt the impossible.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm thinking that I am very glad that it is almost Friday. Things have been very stressful here for a variety of reasons and Friday is the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm just hoping there's not a freight train on the backside of that light. I don't know what tomorrow holds, but PTL I know Who holds tomorrow. He has it all in His hands.

  1. Suzanne,
I liked this post. It was nice to get to know you a little better. I also got a little chuckle in your answer to question 7. Come on, it really can't be that bad! I hope your week gets better!

  2. @Katrina

Thanks, Katrina. My husband's response to my #7 was "you can't improve on perfection". :)

Thank you so much for visiting and commenting. I hope that you have a great evening!

  3. Hope things have perked up and you enjoy the 4th of July holiday weekend! Glad you joined the Hodgepodge this week!

  4. LOVE your answer to #4! My ancestors came over from Romania, and their names are written at Ellis Island. It is on my bucket list to go and see it in person some day :)
